Projects and Plans

Classes: I am currently preparing the reserch for my history thesis, which should be completed by mid-July, at which point I will begin writing my thesis. I am also re-studying my Chinese and studying to take the GRE in mid-June.

Summer Plans: Though summer plans took awhile to figure out, I will be doing the Rangel International Affirs Summer Enrichment Program. This program, sponsered by Senator Rangel an the Department of State, takes place at Howard University and is meant to help prepare about 20 students for taking the Foreign Service Exam and joining the Foreign Service. While at Howard, I will be taking three courses: History of U.S. Foreign Policy, Political Economy, and Professional Writing. The program begins June 21st and ends August 1st.

Research: I am currently working with Georgia's Grand Strategy Group which was founded in January 2009 by five undergraduates and Dr. Brock Tessman, in which we will further study how various princples of international relations fit into American Grand Strategy. It is loosely based off of Yale's similar program. We have presented at four conferences: ISA-South 2009; SPSA 2010; MPSA 2010; CURO Undergraduate Symposium 2010, where our research was warmly welcomed. We also are hoping to be published in Strategic Studies Quarterly in the coming months.

In Fall 2010, I will also be helping with GLOBIS, as the GGS Group was awarded the GLOBIS Undergraduate Research Award. For a small award, we will help with a current GLOBIS project for the Fall semester.

In Fall 2010 - Spring 2011, I will be a Security Leadership Fellow with CITS at UGA. With this program, I will take a class on nonproliferation and export controls in the Fall and I will be helping a CITS researcher in Spring 2011.
